Ballet
Students are trained in
classical ballet through the
Royal Academy of Dance syllabus,
which is progressively graded
through Primary, Grades 1-8, and
Vocational Grades: Intermediate
Foundation, Intermediate,
Advanced Foundation, Advanced 1
and Advanced 2. The lower grades
concentrate on the pleasure of
movement and musicality, with
the development of technique,
artistry and self-discipline
evolving throughout the levels.
Emphasis is placed on proper
posture and alignment, correct
and safe technique and a genuine
sense of performance. The
children's syllabus includes
classical ballet, character and
free movement. Students at the
Grade 2 level and up must enroll
in two ballet classes per week.
The levels in the Vocational
Grades are for more serious
students who have successfully
attained the fundamentals of the
grade syllabus, and include
Pointe work. In addition to RAD
training, students will be
exposed to a free movement
ballet class incorporating
Cecchetti ballet and repertoire
for grades
3 to 5 and the major. Ballet is
recommended for all students,
either to be studied on its own
or to enhance a modern, jazz, or
tap program.

Modern Theatre Dance (Jazz)
syllabus. It is progressively

movements: walking, running,
jumping and skipping, as well as

designed to encourage an
imaginative and rapid response
to music and to promote an
appreciation and enjoyment of
jazz. Classes will include
traditional and up-to-date jazz
movements, which improve

awareness. Boys' work has been
developed to meet the increasing
demand for jazz training for

more serious students who have
achieved the fundamentals of the
